La stagione autunnale di SpazioA si \u00e8 chiusa il 10 Dicembre con una serata dedicata al \u2018Fantasy\u2019 \u2013 italiano e no – , presenti e conversanti Edoardo Rialti, uno dei pi\u00f9 esperti e attivi traduttori di fantasy anglosassone, e Vanni Santoni, uno degli scrittori a tutto tondo pi\u00f9 interessanti delle nuove generazioni, approdato agli incantesimi della letteratura fantastica dopo un intenso periodo di scrittura che non si potrebbe definire se non engag\u00e9e, politicamente schierata, civilmente irritata, socialmente percettiva, stilisticamente sperimentale. Il che gi\u00e0 la dice lunga sull\u2019argomento: ovvero, sulla fallacia di considerare il fantasy \u2018figlio di un dio minore\u2019, riservato ad autori evasivi; genere di superfluo intrattenimento, anzi, squalificato proprio dal suo essere \u2018genere\u2019, ovvero sistema di scrittura obbligato; squalifica che com\u2019\u00e8 noto il Fantasy condivide con il giallo, la detective story, la fantascienza, l\u2019horror\u2026 Introducendo la serata, Riccardo Bruscagli, nelle solite vesti di moderatore, ha voluto proprio sottolineare che si trattava di una serata intesa a difesa (se ce ne fosse bisogno) delle produzioni \u2018di \u00a0genere\u2019, non solo letterarie: esempio sommo, la parabola del cinema di Alfred Hitchkock, a lungo liquidato come di serie B, salvo essere recuperato e iconicamente riscattato dalle voci pi\u00f9 alte dell\u2019avanguardia cinematografica novecentesca. Nel corso dell\u2019incontro, Rialti (reduce dalle traduzioni per Mondadori dei fluviali tomi di Abercrombie) ha fornito un resoconto ad amplissimo raggio della fortuna\/sfortuna contemporanea del fantasy, riscattandolo una volta per tutte dall\u2019increscioso equivoco di essere considerato un genere \u2018 di destra\u2019, reazionario e anzi addirittura faascistoide (ma di questa appropriazione indebita andranno per\u00f2, ad un certo punto, meglio indagate le circostanze e i motivi). Santoni, dal canto suo, \u00e8 entrato nelle fibre del genere con la sua consueta brillantezza e acuit\u00e0 di giudizio, facendo giustizia di \u2018mode\u2019 troppo improvvisate e restituendo al vivo le motivazioni narrative, le ascendenze culturali (Calvino, Borges, Shakespeare\u2026) e le implicazioni morali della sua \u201cTerra ignota\u201d, ormai arrivata al secondo volume (fortunatissimo in libreria) e in attesa del terzo. Non ultimo divertimento della serata, ascoltare Vanni spiegare un genere \u2018esotico\u2019 come il fantasy in pretto linguaggio toscano anzi fiorentino: anche avendo a che fare con la magia, Santoni non dimentica di essere l\u2019autore di \u2018S\u2019io fossi foco arderei Firenze\u2019\u2026<\/p>\n

Spazio A’s fall season came to a close on December 10 with an evening focused on Italian and international fantasy literature. Taking part in the conversation were Edoardo Riati \u2014 one of the leading experts and translators of English fantasy literature, and Vanni Santoni \u2014one of the most fascinating writers of the new generation across the board. Santoni became enchanted by fantasy literature after an intense period of writing that couldn’t be called anything other than engaged, political, civilly irritated, socially perspective and stylistically experimental. This already says a lot about the point of the evening: that it is a fallacy to consider fantasy literature a “child of a lesser god,” just for escapist writers, a genre of superfluous entertainment. Indeed, it is often quickly discredited as being just a “genre,” a force writing system, just as mysteries, detective stories, science fiction, horror and the like are. In his usual role as moderator, Riccardo Bruscagli introduced the evening and underscored that its intent is to defend (should it be necessary) “genre” work in general, not just literature. A supreme example is the parable of Alfred Hitchcock’s films, long dismissed as second-tier and then discovered and redeemed as an icon by the most important voices of 20th-century avant-garde film. During the talk, Rialti \u2014\u00a0who has just translated some of Joe Abercrombie’s copious tomes for Mondadori \u2013 offered a wide-ranging overview of the contemporary fortunes and misfortunes of fantasy literature. He freed it once and for all from the creeping doubt that it should be considered a “right wing” genre, reactionary and even a bit fascist (though this undue appropriation has yet to be further explored in terms of circumstances and motives). For his part, Santoni delved into the heart of the genre with his customary acuity and brilliance, doing justice to overly improvised “fashions” and bringing to life the narrative drivers, the cultural influences (Calvino, Borges, Shakespeare\u2026)and moral implications of his “Terre Ignota,” now in its second installment (flying off the bookshelves) and awaiting the third. Among the many delights of the evening, not least was listening to Santoni explain an “exotic” genre like fantasy literature in pure Tuscan \u2014 Florentine \u2014 speech. Though Santoni deals in magic, he never forgets that he wrote S\u2019io fossi foco arderei Firenze<\/i>\u2026<\/p>\n
